A study that appeared in the Journal of Pain (Volume 12, Issue 3, March 2011, Pages 307-314) compared acupuncture treatment to steroids in 77 subjects with mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome. Subjects in the acupuncture group received eight treatments in four weeks. Those receiving acupuncture treatments had greater improvements in global system score (GSS) assessments when compared to patients receiving steroids. The improvements in GSS were also associated with improvements in electrophysiological assessments.
