Bryonia alba is a member of the gourd family. It is also known as bryony, white bryony and wild hops.  Its traditional use is for shortness of breath, bryonia-alba-smallcoughing, clearing of mucus  and easing chest congestion. Bryonia is commonly used for people who become very irritable when ill. They commonly suffer from anxiety. These patients are commonly contrary, requesting things that they reject when delivered.

The common homeopathic use of Bryonia is for ailments that develop slowly and involve pain associated with the slightest movement.  Generally it is for a patient who feels better when lying on the painful side; and improves with pressure, rest, or cold. The patient will feel worse with warmth, any motion, morning, eating, hot weather, exertion, touch. Commonly symptoms are accompanied by occasional spells of thirst, or dryness of the eyes or mouth–frequently after overexposure to heat or cold. Bryonia has been used for chest inflammation, pneumonia, headaches and rheumatic pains.
