Research that appeared in the journal Bone (Epublished ahead of print, April 4, 2011) looked at the relationship between vitamin K status and bone density.  The cross-sectional study found looked at 365 elderly subjects and found that the amount of vitamin K in the diet was significantly associated with higher bone mineral density. Subjects who increased their intake of vitamin K experienced a decrease in the loss of bone density. It is possible that a higher intake of vitamin K by offer protection against bone loss.
