Research published in PLoS Genetics (2009:5(3):e1000408) looked the effect glucose (sugar) had on the lifespan of yeast cells. The research was performed on yeast cells because they age similarly to human cells. The researchers found that reducing the amount of glucose in the cells’ diet, the lifespan of the cells was increased.
