Studies published in the Journal of Orthopaedic Medicine and the journal Injury examined outcomes in patients with chronic whiplash and reported favorable results with chiropractic care.

In these studies, the authors noted that outcomes with conventional medical management were often limited. In one retrospective analysis, chiropractic care benefited 26 of 28 patients suffering from chronic whiplash syndrome. Overall, approximately 74% of patients experienced meaningful improvement following chiropractic treatment.

The authors concluded that, at the time of publication, chiropractic care represented the only treatment approach with consistent evidence of benefit for chronic whiplash in the populations studied. While these findings were based on relatively small and retrospective studies, they helped highlight the limitations of standard care and the potential value of hands-on spinal treatment for persistent whiplash symptoms.

More recent clinical guidelines emphasize early, gentle mobilization, manual therapy, and avoidance of prolonged immobilization, which aligns closely with the principles used in chiropractic management of whiplash-associated disorders.
