BMI, or body mass index, is a measure of body weight adjusted for height and is commonly used as a screening tool for overweight and obesity. A BMI between 18 and 25 is generally considered normal, while a BMI of 30 or higher is classified as obese.

A study published in Pediatric Pulmonology (2006; 41(12):1118–1124) examined the relationships among diet, body weight, and asthma in 24,260 Korean children between the ages of 6 and 12.

The researchers found a positive association between higher BMI and asthma in boys, but not in girls. In addition, higher intakes of seafood, fresh fruit, and fresh vegetables were associated with fewer asthma symptoms.
