Morus alba (white mulberry) is used in traditional Chinese medicine to tonify the blood and enrich the yin (Chinese Herbal Medicines: Materia Medica, pp. 334–335). It has traditionally been used as a tonic and as an expectorant for conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, colds, cough, and dyspepsia.

In traditional classification, Morus alba is considered sweet in taste and cold in nature. The plant contains a variety of polyphenolic compounds, including morin, mulberrin, and maclurin. The fruit also provides a notable amount of resveratrol.

An interesting botanical note is that Morus alba leaves are the primary food source for silkworms.
