Probiotics and H. pylori
H. pylori is a common bacterial infection linked with ulcers and gastrointestinal inflammation. Along with conventional treatment under a doctor’s care, researchers have looked at whether probiotics may support a healthy gut environment.
A randomized trial in Inflammation & Allergy – Drug Targets (2012) followed 80 adults with H. pylori. For 10 days, they took either a placebo or a probiotic blend containing multiple Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains. One month later:
-
13 out of 40 in the probiotic group tested negative for H. pylori
-
The placebo group showed no meaningful change
Broader evidence: several meta-analyses report probiotics can improve eradication rates and reduce therapy side effects, although findings are not uniform across all trials [1,2].
These findings suggest probiotics may support better treatment responses and stomach comfort — not as a stand-alone cure, but as an adjunct to other care.
