A randomized study published in The Journal of Pain compared acupuncture with steroid injection in 77 patients with mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome. After four weeks, the acupuncture group showed greater improvement in symptom severity scores than the steroid group. These clinical improvements were also associated with objective improvements in nerve conduction measures, suggesting a functional benefit beyond symptom relief.
