Acupuncture for depression? A scientific review (a “meta-analysis”) published in the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry found that acupuncture may help some people with major depression. The review included different types of acupuncture, including manual needle acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, and laser acupuncture. In some studies, acupuncture was used along with antidepressant medication. In those cases, acupuncture did not always lower depression symptoms further in people who were already taking medication—but it did help reduce medication side effects in some studies. [1]
